Poole boss Matt Ford says that Australian Todd Kurtz will be part of the Pirates despite loosing his place at Newport.
Kurtz was set to lineup in the Premier League with the Wasps but the Welsh club have pulled out of the league due to running costs and a disagreement with the sports governing body with just a month before the season starts.
If the 19-year-old fails to find another Premier League club for this season, the Pirates will hand him a full-time Elite League place at reserve.
Ford told the clubs website: "Whilst we were shocked to hear about the withdrawal of Newport from the Premier league I don't see it affecting our position with Todd."
"We can continue to use him on his 3.00 assessed Elite league as a permanent reserve and as he is keen to prove himself at the higher level and I am happy to afford him the opportunity to do so."
