Heat leader Lewis Kerr scored 15 paid 16 points for the King’s Lynn Young Stars as they pulled off a 49-41 victory over the Isle of Wight at the Norfolk Arena.
The Young Stars were under the management of co-promoter Rob Lyon, who was covering for the unwell Dale Allitt, and they got off to a good start. Two wins from Darren Mallett, and two from Robert Lambert in the opening four heats saw the home side move ten points clear.
A dip in form in the following two races saw the Isle of Wight pull the scores back to 21-15 after heat 6, when Lambert hit the deck from second place behind number one Steven Worrall. The gap between the teams was closed even further when the impressive Adam Ellis won heat 9 ahead of team mate Paul Starke.
The Young Stars returned to winning ways in heat 11 when the partnership of Kerr and Lambert proved too strong as they scored a 5-1 after passing Ellis on the third bend of the opening lap.
The Islanders hit straight back with a 5-1 of their own in heat 12 to close the gap to just 4 points with three heats remaining. Heading into the final race, the teams remained four points apart, but a final 5-1 from Kerr and Worrall was enough to give the home side all three league points.
